There are several ways to help. Please contact elected officials and the CT Siting Council to voice your opposition to the proposed site. We have a FaceBook Page where you can share our posts. https://www.facebook.com/ProtectBethanyCT - The opposition committee will be hiring an environmental study and an environmental attorney to fight the location being approved. Please provide some support for these expenses at our GoFundMe page, https://www.gofundme.com/f/stop-commercial-solar-in-our-residential-cmty
This is still under investigation, but according to town officials, the jurisdiction may fall under the Connecticut Siting Council.
Residents in the Town of Bethany have well water and sceptic systems. The aquifer that provides clean drinking water to neighborhood residents will risk contamination. The site will require many chemicals used to keep the panels clean and to kill vegetation from growing near the panels. (Remember the "Round Up" and Erin Brockovich cases?)
Yes there are similar solar fields located in CT, but most are located in commercial or non-residential areas.
In many cases it is, but this particular project is proposed to be located on the ground in a rural, residential area that relies on well water. The majority or solar panels are located on roofs or above raised structures in parking lots. We are not opposed to solar energy, we are just asking that they seek an alternate location within the Town or Bethany.
The proposed site is located on Bethmour Road and will occupy an large parcel of undeveloped, wooded property that is located between Rolling Green Road and Gleenwood Terrace. See image map below.
Please contact the local and state authorities to voice your concerns.
